Shoulder pain and weakness caused by an 'irreparable' rotator cuff tear and advancing arthritis remains a real challenge for a surgeon to treat.
At The Bridgend Clinic we are able to offer a real solution to this problem. A highly developed shoulder replacement is now being used here which can dramatically restore shoulder function.
Based on years of international research the 'reverse polarity total shoulder replacement' offers a unique design where the 'ball and socket' joint orientation is reversed. This means the patient does not need to have a functioning rotator cuff for its successful implantation. The traditional total shoulder replacement remains an effective implant for selected cases, but its success has always been dependent on an intact, functioning rotator cuff.
The reverse polarity total shoulder is able to offer a surgical solution to many patients who would hitherto be destined to continued pain and poor arm function.
Mr Anthony Martin (consultant upper-limb surgeon) is experienced in this implant surgery. For more imformation, please
